Opening Masses for the Jubilee Year of Hope

Saturday, Dec. 28, 5 p.m., Basilica of Saint Mary, Minneapolis and Sunday, Dec. 29, 10 a.m., Cathedral of Saint Paul, St. Paul

Join Archbishop Hebda in opening the Jubilee Year of Hope in our archdiocese! These two celebrations are done in solidarity with all the dioceses (aside from Rome who is doing it earlier) of the world on December 29. Come, participate in the universal church during this historic jubilee year!

“The coming Jubilee will thus be a Holy Year marked by the hope that does not fade, our hope in God. May it help us to recover the confident trust that we require, in the Church and in society, in our interpersonal relationships, in international relations, and in our task of promoting the dignity of all persons and respect for God’s gift of creation.” (Pope Francis, Spes Non Confundit 25)

Jubilee years typically occur every 25 years. However the last jubilee, dedicated to mercy, was in 2015 for the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second Vatican Council. Jubilee years are marked by opportunities for extra graces through indulgences and the opening of the holy doors which symbolize the pilgrim’s journey of conversion.
