The Minnesota Paid Leave Program will be going into effect on January 1, 2026. Minnesota Paid Leave is a paid benefit, administered by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI), that will provide eligible employees a certain amount of wage replacement and job protection if they experience a serious health condition that prevents then from working or to care for a sick family member. Parishes are required to participate in Paid Leave through the Minnesota Paid Leave Program or create their own self-insured plan.
This topic was covered in great detail at the 2025 Employment Law Update Seminar, by Civil Chancellor, Joseph Kueppers, and Director of the Minnesota Paid Leave Program, Dr. Greg Norfleet. Their presentation slides are included below.
