Contemporary trauma research increasingly suggests that trauma resides in the body. What does that actually mean? How does one recognize trauma responses? What can be done to process the trauma? Presenter Derek Sakowski will share some of the lessons and practical tools that he’s learned on his own journey of healing and his accompaniment of others.

Derek Sakowski was ordained a priest for the Diocese of La Crosse in 2003. He holds a Doctorate in Ecclesiology from the Gregorian University. In September 2026, he began serving as Executive Director of Missionary Discipleship for his diocese. He hopes to build the team around the same core principles he’s learned on his own healing journey. Some of you are familiar with his blog, Abiding in Love and Truth, where he reflects on trauma, healing, and the lifelong journey toward wholeness.
