Talk 1: A Tale of Two Families
Many Catholics today consider the teaching of the Church on marriage and family to be at best outdated and at worst unjust. And yet what the Church teaches is simply the teaching of Jesus Christ proposed to the modern world. One of the most significant reasons for this rejection is that most modern people have a concept of marriage and family which is radically different from that proposed by Christ through His Church. In this talk I will lay out side by side the two definitions of marriage and family and show why the perennial teaching of the Church is the only way to guarantee the flourishing of human persons within their families.
Talk 2: Marriage Preparation for the Already Married
In this talk I will give practical advice about how to have a successful and happy marriage based upon a clear understanding of the nature and purpose of marriage and upon many years of pastoral experience preparing couples for marriage and counseling troubled marriages.
Talk 3: Your Holy Dysfunctional Family
We tend to idealize and even romanticize the the life of the Holy Family, and yet the outward circumstances of the life of the Holy Family were filled with difficulties and even misunderstandings among its members. It is a sobering thought that the holiest marriage in human history almost ended in divorce. Nevertheless, while the outward elements of the life of the Holy Family could rightly be called dysfunctional, the inward response which they gave to these problems truly made their family the ideal family, and serve as an example of how to transform our own troubled families into holy families.
